What Is A Niche Website?

It really is possible to make money online if you can stay away from the scams and false promises that are all over the place. I make money with niche websites. What is a niche website? Well, it's something that anybody anywhere can use to make money too.

What Is A Niche Website?

Being able to make money from a website relies pretty heavily on mastering niche websites (though not always), so it's important to understand the concept clearly.

A “niche” is basically a subcategory or a drilled-down version of a larger topic. Let's say “Fitness” is a large category, “Jogging” is a subcategory and “Jogging to lose weight” or “Long distance running” is a niche.

So a niche website is just a website that covers one small topic (Although it can become very large) rather than being broad and general.

For an example of a niche website, check out my first successful one (It still makes me money now) at http://kettlebellexerciseswomen.com

This was a “Kettlebell exercises for women” site. As you can see, the topic is pretty niche.

Why Use A Niche Website?

It's much easier to become a big fish in a small pond than a small fish in a big pond.

Think about it like this.

How many sites do you think there are out there that talk about fitness (just my example, go with it) in general? Literally thousands, maybe even more.

There are so many websites in existence that don't get visitors. Not all of them are personal blogs written by teenagers either.

A lot of people hear about affiliate marketing or making money online (more on this further down the page) and rush out to make a website promoting this that and everything. They fail, because they stay too broad.

Keep it simple, master one small topic.

If you want people to find your site (which is what is going to make you money), then you are going to have a hard time competing with all the other websites out there.

What if you just chose one small section of fitness, like “long distance running” and built a site around that instead? It would be a lot easier to “carve out your niche”, and it'd also be more worth your time.

Besides, another key factor in making money from a website is being able to demonstrate authority. If you are knowledgeable on your subject, people will trust you and buy from you (or listen to your recommendations).

It's a lot easier to become an authority on a niche than on an entire subject.

In fact, you probably already are an authority on several niches. Have a think now whether or not that is true.

How Do You Choose A Niche?

Think of something that you are interested in, that you can create a site about and happily keep writing about for a long time. This could be your hobbies, your skills, your passions, or something else.

Now narrow it down, think of a small section of that and think of how much you'd be able to write about it. A key part of niche websites is constantly adding quality content (reviews, articles, how-tos, and so on).

Don't focus on making money yet.

Chasing the money is the biggest mistake most people make when choosing their niche.

They don't think about long-term, they just think “I want to make money quickly, and XYZ topic can do that”. Right, but you and thousands of other people had the same idea.

Remember, big fish, small pond.

How Does A Niche Website Make Money?

We touched up on this earlier. There are actually quite a few ways to make money, but it all comes from offering value.

Let's say you used my example from earlier and are writing about long distance running:

You could write reviews on running shoes and refer peopel to Amazon or another online retailer to purchase those shoes. If they buy them, you'd get a commission.

You could also place relevant adverts on your site and some companies will pay you each time a visitor clicks the ad.

There are literally THOUSANDS of companies out there begging for you to help promote their products, and they're more than happy to pay you for doing so.

This is known as affiliate marketing, and virtually every niche is profitable using these methods.

Can Anybody Be Successful This Way?

As long as you take the time to learn how to do it, or follow the manuals that we provide with our ready-made niche sites, you're going to have a good chance of succeeding.

Anybody can write about their passions, they just need some training.

It's a pretty straightforward thing to learn, as long as you go about it the right way.

As I touched upon earlier, a lot of people try to cut corners or chase the “best” niches.

There is no best niche, only what works for you.

Can You Buy Niche Sites?

Yes! You don't necessarily need to waste time building your own site out. We specialize in building ready-made niche sites.

The reason buying a ready-made site is so popular is that you don't have to go through the tenuous and frustrating trials of building your own site.

Yes, it's cheaper to do it yourself from scratch, but there's no guarantee that you are going to be able to succeed.

Additionally, our sites come with instructions, guides, support, and fully mapped out paths to success.

How's that for success in a box?

  1. I like your big fish, small pond analogy. It’s totally true.

But the hardest thing for a person finding a niche is knowing the difference between what’s a hobby, and what’s a profitable niche. Hobbies are great, and you can make money with them, but turning your niche website into a business takes a bit of research!

I think for a newbie, it doesn’t really matter if you get something super profitable or just fun. The key is to learn the language of online business, test some ideas out, and branch out from there. If you are just getting started, you need to hurry up and make some mistakes to learn from them. Almost no one starts out with a winner unless you get a bit of help from a trusted mentor.

    1. Yeah you are right there. I think the worst mistake is to not get started. It’s better to just choose your niche, and get on with it, then correct it later if necessary. Also, since we choose niches for people, it’s a lot easier to know that you are onto something good.
