How Do You Eat An Elephant?
You may have heard that question before and know that it is a metaphor. I would never suggest that you truly try to eat an elephant for real. But if you were to eat an elephant, how do you do it? The answer is one bite at a time. Now, I know this phrase or question may be a bit cliche these days but it really fits in the point that I am trying to get across. You could pose another question along similar lines as, how do you get 1000 people to signup for your newsletter (or whatever you are selling). And the answer is one person at a time.
Trying to figure out how to get 1000 people to sign up is about as daunting as trying to eat an elephant. That’s why breaking it down is always a good idea. And once you get the first sign up guess what you do? You do more of what you did for the first sign up to get others. This seems so obvious and yet many people don’t focus on it. They simply focus on how to get 1000 people (or whatever your goal is) to sign up. This is not only frustrating but it leads to a heck of a lot of stress, as you can well imagine.
But getting that very first sale can often be the hardest and that is where I come in. Instead of taking a fork and knive and diving right into a live elephant. You have to first kill it, metaphorically speaking of course. And once you kill it you have to know to stay out of it’s way when it falls. That’s just as important as taking that first bite.
But all kidding aside, starting business online is a way bigger task than most people realize.
