Is It Too Late To Make Money Online?
I happen to love scanning old newspapers about articles on just about any topic. Sometimes I randomly select topics and years for my search, just to see what comes up.
Other times, though, I search for something specific. I had been researching pieces about getting paid online around the period of the Dot Com Bust. The year I found was 2000.
The article I saw was about concerns for missing the Internet Gravy Boat. That's the same topic as this post but just worded differently. I mean, seriously, people were concerned in 2000 that they missed the boat in making money online? The internet only started getting popular in the mid 90's! The year 2000 is only five or six years later. How can anyone possibly miss the boat in five years?
But, here we are in 2016. And after 20 years (mid 90's on), you may be wondering if it is too late to make money online. Let's face it - 20 years is many more than 5. It's more relevant to believe that online business is saturated and too competitive at this stage of the game.
What About Millennials?
Another concern is recent news about Millennials starting up companies. How can we compete with them? I mean, these rascals know everything about technology and they seem much more well suited for starting up businesses, don't they?
Unfortunately, millennials are considering start ups only because they aren't able to find jobs, at least not ones that would support the kind of lifestyle they envision living. Being an entrepreneur to many millennials is simply something to do because there is no other choice. This doesn't make them good at it nor do they necessarily know what to do.
This isn't to say some millennials won't make it as entrepreneurs, even when placed in that situation by no choice of their own. Every group of people will have their fair share of innovators and people who put themselves in the right place at the right time.
And, like any other group, millennials learn quickly that starting up any venture comes with a lot of work and there is no guarantee of success.
Aging Population?
There's also the other side of the spectrum, the Baby Boomers. I read a statistic that shows 10,000 Baby Boomers retire each day. What's interesting about this though, is many of these Boomers want to do something during their retirement, including work.
So, it's perfectly conceivable to believe this group will be starting up business online as well. And truth be told, many of them will.
Between the Millennials and the Boomers, how can anyone possibly carve out a niche competing against these two groups?
Let's also not forget every other group who may have been searching for work but simply gave up. When they discover there's money to be made with this internet-thingy, they are likely to jump in and get started.
Take a Step Back
Before you throw in the towel, and declare market saturation, consider that no group inherently knows how to form or run a business. They have to learn how to do it. Most of them will try every scheme to see which one eventually works. The problem with this brute force approach is they typically run out of money well before they see success, if ever.
Imagine if you learned how to create your online business the right way. You'd be way ahead of all of these other people, wouldn't you? How cool would that be?
It Takes More Than Hard Work
I have no doubt many of the people in the above groups mentioned will start out working hard. They will put every effort imaginable and work hard with the limited knowledge they have acquired. The trouble is, working hard on the wrong tasks or methods is a path to surefire failure.
When you know what to do and have the steps to do it, you simply follow those steps. If you do this, you may find people start coming to your website and will start subscribing to your list or even better, may start buying from you.
