When the web first got popular back in the 1990's, if people wanted to sell stuff online, more often than not they had to obtain a website, find a shopping cart software, find products and warehouse them. Then set up a merchant account. Then they had to continually add products (and delete ones that weren't selling). And when they sold products they had to worry about shipping and returns, etc. It was a lot of work. Today with affiliate marketing, all of that goes away.
What Is Affiliate Marketing?
An vendor that agrees to affiliate with publishers (you as the affiliate marketer) gives the publisher a code that they can display on their websites (or somewhere online). It's usually a link or a banner and the code is specific to the particular publisher. When a visitor clicks on that link they are taking to the vendors website and the code is recorded (using the concept of cookies). If the customer decides to purchase products from that vendor, the publisher will get a commission.
Do you see where this is going? There are no shopping carts or merchant accounts, and the products already exist. All the affiliate marketer (publisher) has to do is get people to click on that link. The vendor takes care of all the back end processing. It's a sweet arrangement but requires some finesse to get visitors to actually click on those links.
Can You Get Paid With Affiliate Marketing?
The truth is there are many people that have sustainable incomes solely from affiliate marketing. Now, before you go and quit your day job, there are some considerations.
- You will need a website (I'll show you where to get one free)
- You'll need a place to host that website. (This too I can help you get for free - more below)
- You still need to pick products but there is not need to store them. Plus you can get reports about which ones sell the best, etc.
- You need to learn the correct methods to set up your website so that it has the potential to earn you money
- You'll also need to learn how to write quality content so that you can get traffic to your website. That is what it takes!
All the above items seems like a lot to take in but the good news is I can help you with all the items. Now, you are probably thinking that all that stuff is going to cost you a lot of money (like hundreds of dollars).
